DATA WIRING

There is no “one size fits all” to data wiring, because specialized network cables are used for different applications. Below are the most common types of wiring used:

Fiber Optic: Fiber optic cabling uses light to transfer data very quickly without losing its connection even over very far distances. Traditional cabling uses electrical signals which are known to drop frequently. Although fiber optic cables can be pricey, if you need long-distance, high-data-capacity cabling, it is worth the extra expense.

Twisted Pair: These cables are used for telephone systems and networks with several different categories within the subset. This is a more affordable option than fiber optic but can only be used for short distances. Categories of twisted pair cables include CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, CAT7 and CAT7A. The maximum bandwidth, transmission speed and distance vary for each category.

Coaxial Cables: More commonly referred to as coax, transmit radio frequency signals. They’re used for telephones, cable television, broadband internet and connecting radio transmitters. It is commonly used when cable internet & cable television services are preferred in the same building.
